Exciting News: CEL Awarded 2024 Grant from the Hellenic Foundation

We’re proud to share that CEL has been selected as one of the 2024 grant award recipients by the Hellenic Foundation!

CEL Board Secretary Mary Greanias is actively involved with the Hellenic Foundation, and saw an opportunity where the two organizations intersect. CEL programs are accessible to people from all backgrounds, and this grant allows the foundation to support CEL members of the Greek Orthodox community with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This grant will serve as a reimbursement fund for CEL, covering the costs associated with the assessment period for potential new members from Greek American and Orthodox Christian communities, in line with the Hellenic Foundation’s mission of helping those in need and improving their lives.

Our CEO Herb Washington attended the award ceremony with Greanias to receive CEL’s custom award plaque. The event afforded the opportunity to connect with other inspiring leaders who are making a difference throughout Chicagoland and hear from Hellenic Foundation leaders about the multitude of ways they are supporting community members.

At CEL, we’re dedicated to providing social, recreational, mental health, employment, and adult day programs for teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and are grateful to the Hellenic Foundation for their support.
